I am a devote rap music fan. One of the topics I seem to never be
able to agree on with my friends is the 10 top hip hop albums of all
time? Of course ultimately it's a matter of opinion (mine being right
haha).
So I sat down and trawled through rap music until my ears bled, my aim was to narrow the options down to 10 and guess what... I couldn't do it! In the end I decided to break it down further and categorize the music into place of origin I'm gonna attempt to compile 4 hip hop collections, 10 top hip hop albums from the West Coast, 10 top hip hop albums from the South, East and one for the North and the rest of America. I took my time to scope through artist's hip hop producers to bring you my top albums; if you feel I've missed any feel free to comment and let me know.
Dr Dre - 2001: In my opinion Dre's best album and probably the best album of all time for me. The man had a massive part in putting Compton and the west coast on the map and 2001 is a celebration of that. In my eyes the best hip hop producer ever and definitely one of the top hip hop albums ever released.
Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle: Snoop Dogg, the godfather of the mic, exploded on the scene with this album. Rap music was not the same after this album. With Dre on the production and snoopy lacing the flow there is no better combination.
The Game - The Documentary: Compton rapper Game's first and in my opinion best album. It's the album before all the beef him and 50 had. Game really showed us what he was made of on this album and it set the stage for the rest of his career.
Snoop Dogg - Last Meal: In my opinion Snoop Dogg's best album by far. Feels like he's really comfortable and found his feet. The constant vibe that Kokane brings to the music is also good; Snoop locking the flow and Kokane harmonizing in the background.
N.W.A. - Straight Outta Compton: The album that changed so much, defined gangster rap in general a real milestone in hip hop history. At a time when east coast rap ruled and when Rappers were talking about being happy, N.W.A. came in and changed the rules of the game by bringing Gangsta Rap to the mainstream. A blood-soaked masterpiece! Definitely a top hip hop album.
Cypress Hill - Cypress Hill: This is Cypress Hill's debut. It is filled with funky beats, great rhymes and B Real's excellent high killer flow! They are very underrated talent I wish they would get more exposure but come to think about it they are pretty high all the time they probably don't want it.
Ice Cube - Amerikaz Most Wanted: Ice Cube was born to join and leave N.W.A. After all, he was the most talented emcee of the whole group. Not even "Straight Outta Compton" can prepare you for this hard-core, west-coast masterpiece!
Ttop hip hop albums aren't easy to come by but this is the real deal. Ice Cube is definitely a veteran in the industry hes been there since pretty much the start and was the first real MC to rock the mic in the notorious group N.W.A.
Eazy E - Eazy Duz It: The Godfather of Gangsta Rap's debut album. Eazy-E might not of been one of the most talented emcees, but he is still a Legend. This is a semi-sequel to "Straight Outta Compton" and was made very quickly after it, due to the success of "Straight Outta Compton." Unfortunately this top album was one of only a few due to Eric being taken too early in life due to AIDS.
2pac - Me Against the World: This is this legendary artist at his darkest. On this, he is self-reflective, soul-bearing, honest and introspective. This really is a top hip hop album from a top artist. R.I.P! The day Tupac Amaru Shakur died was a dark day for the industry. He released countless good songs with a real incite into his mind with meaning and purpose.
DR DRE - Chronic: Wow! It did so much for rap. It introduced the world to G-Funk. It made the West Coast the most popular coast in rap. It also introduced the world to the Rap Legend Snoop Dogg. Dre really is a diamond when it comes to hip hop producers this album set the stage for West Coast rap and made what Dre Snoop Warren G and Nate Dog where dreaming become a reality.
There is countless more top hip hop albums that I could of mentioned but I tried to concentrate on ones that had an impact and made a mark.
