Easter is a time honoured tradition. Giving out chocolate eggs,
holding egg hunts and soaking children in admittedly adorable face paint
all mark old standbys. But like any celebration you can count on it
being a party theme, so what are the best costumes to try out?
Contrary to popular belief, Easter's official icon isn't a rabbit. Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday, and there's no better way to celebrate that fact than dressing up as a vague approximation of what we like to imagine he looked like. Unless you fancy a baby outfit there's no better time to dress up as the Son of God, so you don't want to miss it.
There's nothing wrong with a secular Easter, and there's plenty of imagery floating around to draw from. Want something simplistically silly? Now you're an egg, with plenty of opportunities for large scale decoration! Jump on the whole "new life" bandwagon with livestock costumes. The sheep, cows and pigs are all giving birth to delicious children, so... dress up as them? Sure, dress up as them.
Of course, many people seize fancy dress as a chance to appear a little more risqué. While there is a certain glow to new mothers, there's not actually that much titillation to be had in livestock reeling from a live birth. Fortunately, bunnies are equally associated with the childlike innocence of a religious holiday and softcore pornorgraphy, so you should have little different finding a bunny costume to hold a captive audience.
There's no law saying bunnies have to be sexy, and the Easter Bunny represents that fact perfectly. From full body suits with accessories to basic mask and shirt combos, you'll be able to find something appropriate. Just don't forget a basket with accompanying eggs.
There's plenty to springboard off into your own ideas. You could always go with zombifying an existing costume. Zombie Easter Bunny is always good for a laugh, and zombie Jesus is... surprisingly close to the actual story. Consider the above and think of something original, fancy dress is one of the best chances to experiment.
Any opportunity to dress up is a good one, and you should take them wherever you can. From office parties to stag nights there'll always be a seasonal theme to latch on to and get creative with. Easter is no different, so get out there and flex those costume muscles.
