How To Be An Income Producing Mom Blogger

I'd like to share my mom blogger story with you and how I went from doing it as a hobby to actually turning it into an income producing activity.
There are a ton of mom bloggers out there but only a few are really making a living from it. The difference between making money with a blog and wasting time blogging is slight. But there are just a few tweaks and tricks, that if you know them, can changing your 'mommy blogger' experience drastically.
When I got started as a mom blogger, I had this idea that I just had to write articles and insert a few affiliate links and some links to my network marketing products and suddenly, I would start to earn commissions and build a team on the internet. But blogging for profit is not quite that cut and dry.
My first mom blog was started as a healthy green mom type of blog and I wrote things about healthy living and kid's stuff that inspired me. I recommended organic beauty products and things that would appeal to the healthy greem mom market with affiliate links, but rarely did anyone buy through those links. I didn't realize at the time that making money with a blog depends on how much traffic you are getting to your blog, as well as the quality of that traffic, and my traffic was really just a few friends and family who were coming over to visit me, not a market who was looking to buy anything or make money online.
Getting traffic to a blog is similar to getting traffic to a brick and mortor business. It depends on how well you market to your specific market. If someone looking for cheese walks into a auto body shop, the chances of a sale are slim to none. If you can get targeted traffic to your blog who are looking specifically for what you offer, you are in business as a mom blogger.
My second mom blog was created so that I could 'brand' myself as a mom blogger and internet entrepreneur. I wrote articles, but still didn't understand the basics of how to make money with a blog. Branding yourself and making money are a bit of a catch 22.
You need to be successful before you can brand yourself, but most people are trying to brand themselves first in order to be successful.
My first online success came from something I marketed that was completely outside my blog. I had a capture page to an appealing offer and I marketed to people who were looking for what I offered specifically. I made about $500/month doing that and my name was nowhere on the sales page. But blogging is different... as a mom blogger, your blog is your capture page. You need an offer on your blog that appeals to your readers.
There are really 3 things you need if you want to make money as a mom blogger.
First, you need a blog. Obviously. And you need to add valuable content to that blog regularly or nobody will hang around to read your stuff or come back.
Second, you need an offer that converts. No matter what you are writing about, you need a form where people put their email address in so that can get something you offer or can learn something they need. It's how you build a list and as you know, the money is in the list.
Thirdly, you need an autoresponder. It's how you are going to build relationships with your list after they opt into your form. Rarely do people buy from a blog directly. But once they get to 'know' you and trust you through follow up email, a lot of sales can be made on the back end.
The issues I had as a mom blogger were this: I didn't understand how to drive targeted traffic. And I didn't have a compelling offer.
So now, I use a shared blogging platform that is optimized for the search engines, and I can blog about my passions and products and actually get traffic. Plus, I now have an offer that converts on my blog and a way to build a list.
